I'm very new to the outboard engines and i'm looking into putting new gauges in my bayliner and was needing to know if anybody knew what kind of speedometer a 120 force engine uses? Is it mechanical, GPS based, pilot tube or whatever any of the others are? Also does anybody know what the fuel level sender is in a 1992 bayliner capri? Thanks for your time

Re: 120 force speedometer

There is a couple of different senders so you need to take your old one out.
The speedo is the same it can be operated by the pitot tube or gps.Usually not mechanical.GPS is in the GPS unit.
Any speedo will work if you stick to the pitot tube.Just make sure the tip isn't broken off the pitot tube.J

Thanks Jerry. Do you recommend the pilot over the the GPS or does either one work better than the other? The pilot is considerably cheaper. Also where is this located on the motor so i can take it off and replace it? Thanks for everything. Sorry about the stupid questions

Re: 120 force speedometer

Lots of depth finders have speed built in.GPS all have speed. It does cost a lot more. Most pleasure boats don't really need a GPS unit.Offshore, it's a must have.
The pitot tube is on the transom, usually to the right of the motor.See picture.Newer motors have the pickup in the lower unit.
Just make sure the tip on the pitot tube isin't broken and the hose to the front isin't clogged or pinched.J
