120 HP OMC leaking water

Ok ...... so my buddy calls me up, his boat is taking on a lot of water. It's a chevy 4 cylinder and it looks like the frost plug in the bell housing has popped. How big a job am I being asked to do? Is it better to remove the outdrive etc. or lift the motor? Other than that it runs great and everything works. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

I don't know the exact year. It's an iron duke with points though if that helps.

Ayuh,... Which Drive is on it, the old, vs. newer come apart differently...

Ok ............ so I've been properly rebuked for not knowing what the motor is ........ um ........ I'm here to learn. I called my buddy and he thinks it might be an 86. Thanks again.

Ayuh,.... Might be, or About don't really help,...
If it's new enough to be a Cobra drive, Pull the drive, then the motor to replace the coreplug....
If it's old enough to be a Stringer drive,... I donno,...
Pull the motor,+ the drive can fall out the back of the hull...

Um ........... this one has a gear driven trim motor that is on the port side down low ....... does that help?

sounds like a stringer 400

Ok ...... so what's the best way to replace that frost plug? It's the one on the back of the block inside the bell housing.
