I just recently purchased a 1980 Silverline with 120 OMC for cheap because it is leaking water into the stern. It starts and runs good maintains good temp, but when rpms are increased it is dumping water out of the drain where the motor and out drive bolt together at the bottom. It doesn't do it at an idle though. A gentleman already told me it was the coreplugs behind the flywheel, but in doing some research (internet) people are saying the ujoint bellows can cause this also. Before I pull the motor I was just wondering what others thought.

Ayuh,.... You just asked this question,... 'n it was a 3.0l Mercruiser....

The 2.5l OMC of 1980 is a Stringer drive, which doesn't Have a bellows....

Yer motor Froze, 'n pushed out the Core Plugs...

Re: 120 OMC dumping water

I know...... there was a miscommunication between me and the previous owner on the motor, now that it is home with me it is definitely a 120 OMC, thanks again, although I was hoping for an easier repair
