its a 120hp v4 serial no bo120tlcm it will start up right away,idle rock steady for ever will get up and go like a scalded cat BUT if i turn off the motor after steaming out 6/8/10,miles it won't restart no matter what i try.if i l leave it over night it will start right up, idle rock steady and go like a scalded cat till i knock it off then its back to leaving it overnight and bingo of she go's again! done this about 6 times now and i,m scratching my head a bit as to whats causing it. fuel system all good new tank,line pumps etc new plugs new fuel filter etc. anyone come across this before? help please as my buddys are realy starting to laugh at me

what have you checked when it will not start? spark? you have to trouble shoot when it fails, not the next day.

mentioned it to a friend of a friend, so called expert, and he says "ah yeah thats the governor it overheats and takes 19hrs to cool off after that it'll start right up" WTF is a governor? sorry tashas daddy but i didnt pull a plug or anything just start the kicker and run home.

There is such a thing called heat sensitive snap disk, once it snaps open it can take hours for it to cool and snap closed again, if your engine has something like this follow the ignition circuit from the coil out and look for it somewhere near the cylinder heads, you could actually have a near to overheating condition and once your engine shuts down and waterflow stops the temp rises above the red zone and trips the light, bad thermostat or weak waterpump.

There's an overspeed circuit in the power pack that limits RPM to a given max, say 6200 RPM (never heard of a "snap disk") ... some newer motors have a "SLOW" circuit that limits RPM to ~ 1500 in case of an overheat, but doesn't stop the motor. There is no "governor", in any case, other than the RPM limiter in the power pack and it never requires any "cooling time".
