125 hp 87 to 88 swap ?

Hi guys ,I just purchased a 88 125 hp force to replace my 87 .My question is the lower unit is 25" and my 87 is a 20". Can I swap my 20" to the 88.I looks identicle except for the lower unit .Can anyone clarify for me ? Thanks in advance it's appreciated

You new motor,the mid section is 5in.longer and you will have to disasemble the lower end of the motors and swap parts.
Where the lowers fit the housing is bigger.The drive shaft is too long too.
The shafts can be swapped but will need special tools to re-shim.

thanks much appreciated, I think I'll just swap the heads ,I assume I'll need a gasket with rtv sealent.Is there any special way of dissasembling the head off I need to know?
