I have a 1971, 125 hp Johnson. Engine was running but died, replaced coil, started right up. Engine ran for about 10 mintes then died again. No more spark, it appears to be the coil again. What could cause the coil to burn out? Is there a way to test coil off motor? Any suggestions.

Wheres Joe Reeves when you need him.

Was it a new coil or did you replace with another old one?
I don't think you can burn a coil out like that, I'd look for corrosion on coil grounds, but without a manual its going to be hard to diagnose.

It was a new coil. I have the Seloc manual and have gone through the trouble shooting section. I was wondering if the powerpack could burn out the coil.

Wire connection's, anti reverse spring, clipper circuit, sensor, pulse pack, coil. They will all shut that sytem down. These component's must be tested one at a time. Guessing will get very exspensive. A service manual is a must on this engine. Proper tool's, and test eguipment is also a plus.
