hi just took out new[used boat] today. got it in water went to start and starter hung up, took cover off to spin flywheel to disengage starter and seen a bunch of magnetic hunks under flywheel keeping it from spinning. is it a big deal getting flywheel off? do i need a puller? i want to get a manual that i can understand. what is a good one to buy? man what a bummer!! checked out motor before buying, would have been nice if this would have happened then. thanks ken

ok after a little inspection it looks like the metalic chunks are coming from the flywheel side, the stator is red. do i have to buy a whole new flywheel or can the magnet be replaced? anyone? thanks ken

Re: 125 merc stator

The first thing i would do is to look up a parts manual, here is a site: http://www.mercruiserparts.com/mercruiser_parts.asp

find flywheel p/n and see whats there and availability
ebay is a good source if you have p/n

make sure the flywheel is off and see what other parts are possibly damaged
(best to buy this puller here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1EEBSVN77SSD36HQ4PSN

there may be a way to reattach magnets if thats the problem but it will probably happen again so i would steer towards another flywheel
