Re: 12v both sides of coil on new coil

ok i dont know anything about a 350 so im thinking a old v8 with carb and distributor ......so power on both sides of the coil is normal when the points are open. the points in the distributor close and this connects the negative post of the coil to ground (negative dc) on the low side winding and you get fire on the high side winding of the coil. the test you are trying to carry out proves nothing that will help with the engine running rough. a spark tester to ensure all leads are firing a new set of plug, points, condensor and testing the timing might be a better way to go if the problem is electical and not fuel related

i realized the negative should only be itermittant, lack of sleep! the engine alignment was off a bit which helped, new wires today but it still sounds like its running a cylinder short, the sound is almost like a detonation on a 4cylinder turbo.... try new plugs tomorrow and go from there, hopefully its that simple!
