12v system and 24v trolling?

My brother is considering getting a 24v troller for his 19' cuddy with Mercruiser 1 I/O (boat converted in the past by someone else from OB). This is a project boat, so he has plenty of time to consider his options. Are there any existing systems out there to charge two 12v batteries in parallel and operate them in series for trolling, or do most just add a 24v charging system for such a setup? I do have one or two ideas on wiring up a 12/24 system for him, but I wanted to get other ideas too.

These appear to be AC line chargers, I meant a system to allow charging from 12v while underway and operate 24v for trolling.

I know they recommend NOT using an outboard alternator to charge trolling motor batteries. Too much strain on it. Here's one article that references charging while underway. Are you saying hard on the outboard alternator? It's a Mercruiser I/O. Aren't there any charging systems for charging your trolling batteries while underway?

Have you thought about a solar charger? I dont know how much of a charge they put out, but 2 batteries will probably last you at least 3 days of trolling.

As an option, are there any manual switches to switch the trolling batteries between a parallel 12v (charging) and a series 24v (trolling) configuration? I can wire up a standard double pole double throw switch or relay(s) to do this if there's nothing in the marine products market, but I want to see if anything is already available first. And I'm not even sure if my brother will stick with his 24v troller idea.
