Hi guys, im new to the fourm and I have a question about a prop for my motor. I have a 1998 wellcraft 190ccf w/130 evinrude. What pitch prop should I run to get the most preformance and mileage out of my motor? With 3 people at WOT I can get it up to about 4400-4700 rpm. Should I be able to get more out of it???

Welcome to iboats.

You are not turning the optimum rpm's for your motor and you may be over propped. What type of prop do you have now? Do you know the pitch? Your WOT rpm's should be at 5500 rpm's and I would consider dropping the prop pitch 2 inches

Re: 130 evinrude prop question

Thanks for the welcome. I am not sure on the prop type/brand or pitch. My wife and I just recently purchased the boat. Ive only taken it out a couple times since the purchase because of the BP spill. I live in south Louisiana and all of our fishing grounds have been closed up until yesterday because of the oil. Now that they are open, its time to hit the water!! All I have done is maintence on it an fix a few scratches and bruises on it. I will check the prop make and pitch and get back to you on it.

if tach is correct and engine is sound you are lugging that motor with current prop. 5300 would be minimal.

Also, what would be the ruff estimate on a pitch for the boat/motor combo???? My dad has a couple props for a 115 johnson I may look into borrowing if they are not too much difference in pitch.

Yes the motor is sound. I had to bring it to the shop after the second outing for a new fuel pump. I had them check it all out and comp. was good across all cyl. and has good spark. The only thing that the guy I bought it from said he changed on it was the lower unit. He had it replaced because he said he ran up on an oyster reef and cracked the housing on the original.

Ok, thanks for your help. I'll pull it off tomorrow and see what pitch it is and get back to you.
