I own a 97" 4winns H180 with a volvo 135penta, which had a squealing alternator belt when cold. Although tightening did not resolve issue.. Recently i launched my boat for a days fishing, and travelled about 200 metres b4 noticing the smell of a burnt fan belt. Motor was still running minus belt that circulates alternator waterpump and harmonic balancer. I reluctantly nursed it back to boat ramp.. She got a very warm (motor) but was still running. Upon inspection of pullies, the harmonic balancer had shifted away from engine block and was virtually touching engine mount. I'm thinking this may have happened before the belt snapping, but not too sure.. Is this a common problem (balancer pully shifting position). Is it a matter of removing the engine mount and hammering it back into place with a block of wood? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just hope i haven't cooked the engine, i only ran it for a few hundred meters.. fingers crossed!
