Acquired this boat for nothing, seats rotten and transom was 50% missing. It's 14' boat with nice lines, well made and sturdy. No transom label; guessing is a mid 1960s boat made in Webster City IA! I ordered marine grade 3/4" plywood from the local reseller only to find it was backordered. Finally came in 2 weeks later, cut seats, painted with a rust oleum exterior product (3 coats) and ready to install seats. Here are prelim pics (hopefully resizing worked):

Re: 14' Naden Rehab

Welcome to iboats!

Yup the aluminum boats are the easiest to restore and work on.

Take a good look around and you will find tons of aluminum boat info. Sand and paint that trailer and no one will ever know how old the boat is.

The rehab is complete. Ready to hit a lake and see how it runs with the 15 Johnson-'Rude hybrid. See attached pictures!

Well that was fast!

Did you use starboard for the seats? My only other suggestions are to try to lengthen the fuel line and move it forward one more spot.

What length shaft is on that motor? It looks like your cavataion plate is far below the hull (could be the camera angle).

Have fun.

LOL..I was thinking the same thing m8..real fast :)

I agree with the tank going forward..

Dont think thats starboard Bob..It would cost him a small fortune ..and If it is..he should pony up some jing and get a new fuel tank :D

YD.

PS.. I have the same tackle box as yours ! I love it.. makes a nice gelcoat tint kit.. heh

Re: 14' Naden Rehab

Must be the camera angle; the cavitation plate is 1" below the transom. The 15HP is a short shaft and the transom is 15". I suppose moving the tank forward isn't a bad idea, I'm used to keeping the tank in the back but there isn't enough room for the 6 gallon tank to fit there compared to my 14' Lund.

The goal is to get my 9.8 Merc up and running and use that on this boat vs. the 15 OMC. This boat will be left 'UP NORTH' at my in-laws for use on the chain of lakes for fishing with the kids. Will not be trailered after it's brought up to Hibbing, MN.

That tackle box is a classic, it's at least 20 years old, maybe 25 but lots of storage, etc.

Re: 14' Naden Rehab

Totals for rehab:

boat+anchor+oars: free
3/4" marine grade plywood: $75
exterior paint: $10
stainless steel hardware: $25
anchor rope: $7
MN license/registration (2009-2011): $31.50
lettering/numbering kit: $7
3 cushions: $25

approx. $180 plus many hours of rotten wood removal, cutting new wood, painting/finishing seats+transom, drilling/hardware installation. Still not a bad return on the initial investment!

Wish my project cost was that small, I put $200 in the motor alone

Looks good, nice job, seats are sweet

Re: 14' Naden Rehab

Hey guys, the seats are 3/4" marine plywood. I used 75% of a full sheet on the project. I hit all the edges (top and bottom) with a 1/2-round router bit. Screamed pretty good but fortunately my garage is detached and the neighbors aren't too close.

The goat was no sharp edges on them so the kids won't get banged up (easy with 4 and 6 year olds). I put 3 coats of paint on them, it's an exterior gloss paint. I had great weather last week here in the midwest, dry and cool. The paint set up quick. I was able to put on a coat every 8 hours: top and bottom, and sides. I figure if the seats get wet (slippery) they can be wiped down quickly with a towel.

KNR--I reviewed your project earlier today, nice work, especially dealing with the East coast weather!

Re: 14' Naden Rehab

I paired the boat with a '68 Evinrude 18HP and that really moves this boat. I've got a 14' Lund (wide/deep) which must be lots heavier than the Naden because the 18 really hauls #ss on the Naden and not so much on the Lund. Other than being a little narrow in the back and not having enough room for a fuel tank on the transom, the boat ain't bad. My kids like sitting in the front seat as they can hang on to the bow cover while sitting forward. Think the Lund is going up north and the Naden is staying in town! I would bet I could pull a skier behind this set-up. I think it's got that much snort to it. Will post back after next weekend with results.....
