14' Starcraft Mariner questions

Hello, as a newbie to this group, I'm hoping someone can help me out as I'm not too boat savvy. I purchased this older aluminum boat used, a few years ago for my husband to use in our farm pond. (Picture attached) I bought it from a local private party who used it with a trolling motor for duck hunting, thus the camouflaged spray job.

I didn't know that it even had to be registered, although used only on our private property. I hope we are not in big trouble! I as yet, have not located my bill of sale, but figured I could trace down the previous owner through the boat decals and get a new one. The registry here informed me that it was listed as a 1982 Buckshot. The metal stamped plate inside the boat clearly says 14' Mariner Starcraft. Could there be a mistake?

Now since my husband no longer has time for the boat, we thought we'd just sell it. Have a couple of people interested, but I think I'm in a fix and hope I haven't been taken for a "ride." Now what? I believe the boat was a 1970 something as I cannot recall what exactly was put on the bill of sale until I locate it. It definitely isn't where it should be filed, that's for sure!

Next, I thought if I copied the serial #'s I could notice Starcraft and maybe they could tell me the year. No luck in that department as I believe they no longer exist as a boat company. Can anyone offer some polite help please? I'm truly not a dummie, just uneducated about these things.

Thanks,
Cinamon

Re: 14' Starcraft Mariner questions

Looks like 60's or 70's Starcraft Mariner to me. Starcraft most certainly does exist as a company. In fact, I believe it was bought back by the original founding family with the past few years.

Welcome to iboats:)

It sounds/looks like a starcraft to me. The company is still in existence but may not be too much help unfortunately.

Here's a link to a brochure from 1967 that has measurements for the Mariner hulls. That may help you identify the boat at least.

This is a link to all years avialble from fiberglassics...

If you don't have a motor clamped to the transom in Michigan then the boat doesn't need to be registered. It does help sell it though.

If you repainted her and got it registered maybe you'll want to keep it;)

Good luck with her!

Re: 14' Starcraft Mariner questions

Thanks so very much for y'alls assistance & sites. I think I may just hang around with you smart people afterall :) I'm learning!

GOOD NEWS, I finally got to speak with a professional at the registry who gave me the correct info on the boat. It is a 1969, 14' Starcraft Mariner. And I don't need the bill of sale afterall or have to register it on private property. Yipee! When I sell it, I just have to mention the decal #'s and that it has been only used on private property on a bill of sale. That was easy, but took the whole day to get the info and relief.

You guys are too much! Thanks.. if we don't sell, at least we'll know how y'all refurbish one, thanks to finding this forum! Will keep in touch.
