Happened to me a couple weeks ago. The 2 wires- purple and red/blue wire broke off in the voltage regulator at the grommet. You can buy a new one for around 40 dollars or a new alternator for around 65. I ended up purchasing a new one for 65 on eBay since it was the original one from 87.. Figured the bearings would go at some point in the next few years. So, check those wires make sure they are not frayed at the grommet or worse case broken.
