1985 Mercruiser 140HP, Alpha One Gen One. This is the o ring that goes into the groove of the gimbal housing. I am getting water in the boat and this is the location it is coming from. Has anyone changed this o ring without pulling the engine? Has anyone else had this o ring go bad?

Thanks

This is the o ring that goes into the groove of the gimbal housing.

Assuming you mean the large ring between the gimbal housing and the transom, I would guess the transom is rotten, not that the ring suddenly started leaking. When the transom rots out the bolt holding the gimbal housing to the trasom are no longer tight, and pull into the transom.

^^^ Like Don said if it is leaking around the transom assembly.

If you are talking about the exhaust pipe gasket.... like the one pictured here, then you will need to pull the engine to replace that and fix whatever the problem may be.
