Hello, I have a 1980 dixie boat with a 140 I/O
mercruiser engine. The boat continues to carbon foul the spark plugs. I recently rebuilt the carb (not sure if it is even the carb for the boat) it is a rochester 2 jet.Can anyone tell me the correct jet size for this engine. I also found that the alternator was not charging and changed it out with one off of an s10 truck and it charges but it seems to get a little hot. Was this a bad idea?

bishop,

NEVER use an automotive part on a I/O. Marine alternators and starters are sealed to prevent sparks. Gas fumes and sparks in a closed engine compartment are not a good combination.

Is your choke opening all the way?

Do you know what size the jets in the carb should be,or if this is even my problem.

I'm not sure if jet size varies with carb type, but I just rebuilt mine and checked the listings online to make sure.

I have the Mercarb on mine, and the specified jet size is 145 unless you are operating at high elevations (up in the mountains, I guess).

A little creative searching of carb rebuild parts online will probably yield the absolutely correct answer.

If you want a specific answer? Need serial number of carb and engine. Also are your using oil? Other problems that might help. As in...Stumbling on take off? Idles bad?

Why do you want to change the jets???? Did you do a compression check?? Need info

I checked the specs in my repair manual and they list the jets for the mercarb, but under rochester the jet space is blank. I sugest sharching online (OldSeville's idea).

Never had it in the water. But when I run it with the muffs it doesnt stumble.I also did a compression check and got 150lbs per cyl. I have adjusted the float level several times and still get the dripping.
