1400 still leaking gas, should I shoot IT or myself?

The top carb on my 1400 started leaking right after I fixed the middle carb (figures).

Was shooting gas out the little overflow hole. Opened it up, the float was total trash and falling apart. Replaced it with a brand new one. Started leaking from carb itself. Installed new needle and seat, set the arms according to spec, and got it all buttoned up today. STILL leaking and won't run for more than a few seconds.

I tried banging on the side to see if the float was stuck, but it still leaks.

I don't know what to do. Starting to think about selling the damn thing. Any ideas would are appreciated.

Just to get a jump on things I ONCE AGAIN took the starter/top off to start to remove the top carb altogether. Part of the carb base (where the right-side nut attaches, if you're staring straight at the carb down the throat) seems to be hung up on the dizzy assembly. I just walked away before I did something rash.

Do I really have to remove the dizzy to remove the top carb? I cannot believe that this would be engineered that way.

Buzz, the finger of the distributor opens the top carb, as the throttle is advanced. Removing the top carb is a bit tricky with the distributor still installed, but can be done. Remove the starter and try not to break anything.
