Ayuh,..... 1400 hrs. is at best 1/2 the expected life of a well maintained Chevy V-motor,....

Boat motors are generally killed by their owners, rather than ever wear out,....

Should be willing to do a compression and or leak down test on it. If compression is ok and it has 10 psi /. 1000 rpm of oil pressure hot you ar good to go.
would look at condtion of exhaust manifolds especially if in salt water, as Bondo stated lack of maintenance is biggest killer…

A 2001 boat should have between 1100 hours and 2200 hours if it was used

With normal maintenance, 5000 hours plus is the norm.

As Bondo states, boat motors are normally murdered by lack of maintenance and do not die of normal wear.

Plus, I am willing to bet the key was left on more than once.
