I have a 2002 140 4-stroke suzuki that has recently developed a sputter at idle. Engine temp has no affect. It sputters warm and cold. Once I get beyond 1000rpm the sputter will go away and the engine will run good. I have good gas flow from tank and I have changed the little blue plastic fuel filter as well as the bigger metal fuel filter. I have also replaced spark plugs. The gas in the tank is about 3 weeks old. I did pump some gas into a clear bottle and let it sit to see if it had water in it and it did not. Any suggestions that would help narrow the problem down would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: 140hp 4-stroke Suzuki sputters at idle

Looks like I am going to have to take it to a suzuki dealer and get them to hook it up to the computer.

Once again I have changed plugs, fuel filters, and have fresh gas in tank. I even did away with my anti-siphon valve on the gas tank thinking it was restricting my fuel flow at idle when the fuel pump isn't pumping as hard as it would at wot.

Any further advice on what to check next would be very appreciated.

Thanks again.

I finally found out what was causing the sputter. The fuel line going from the bulb to the engine was coming apart on the inside and restricting the fuel flow to the engine. I replaced the hose, and the bulb pumped up faster and harder than it had in a long time. I touched the key and it started, and ran as smooth as glass.

FYI don't over look the small stuff!!
