Looking to repower my 85hp is just not something I would like to play with anymore theirs a leak in the crank case or lower main seal its leaning out at idle in neutral 4th cyl. Have no interest in tearing apart I because I would like more power as it is. I would like to get a 140hp johnson/evinrude that 85hp takes me about 33 MPH I also have a choice on buying a 120hp looper johnson. I really just go fast on my Glastron v176 swinger a very nice boat. I really dont want a mercury I just want a johnyrude that will take me fastttt. Any ideas about my choice in engine.

ETEC, Devonaaron. Whatever your Glastron is rated for (no more). If you are gonna spend bux just to go faster why not do it right?

The old Glastrons were great boats and responded well to hp increases. You need to decide just what engine you want. OMC made crossflow 140's for a few years, then derated them to 115 through 1997. The replacement 140's (similar to the 120 you mentioned) were larger engines, quite a bit heavier and were loop charged. There are big differences between the technolgies of crosslfow and looper. Another option: You will find the carbureated 60 degree 115 looper engines are compact, have lots of torque and have a great reliability record.

I'll go along with JB. To go faster it costs $$$$.

the 115 will be the same weight as your old 85...if you to a 120 you are at the same weight as a 150/175...if your boat is rated for it a 150/175 would really take that boat for a ride..be sure to check transom well for cracks/rot..and get a transom saver...

The prop off your 85 will temporarily work on the 120. Did the 120 come with a prop? Likely you will need to go to a higher pitch prop, like a 21 or a 19. The factory recommended rpm range is between 5000 and 6000 rpm. I'd prop it to run just under 6000 at full throttle. You will get better performance and fuel economy.
