140hp johnson '88 This is about a boat i want to buy and the owner is telling me the engine stopped working and he's not sure whats exactly wrong with it. Anyway i want to know how much trouble i will be getting in to if i buy this boat.

How much money can it cost to fix any type of problem this engine might have, or which type of symptoms these engines frequent to have? thanks for any possible help.

also boat is wellcraft 18" cc 1988, floor plywood is rutten the boat look nice and they ask $800, trailer is good shape

Hard question to answer. What you are really saying is that you are buying a used outboard that is not running for 800. Boats with rotten floors, and probably rotten transom as well, are a dime a dozen and are usually pretty much given away with the outboard. Depending on what is wrong with the motor, you could fix it for free, or it could cost you mucho $$$$. Sorry for such a general answer, but we will need more info for a better understanding. Compression figures, spark tests, if the lower unit leaks, etc...

it sounds like that is not really any kind of a deal. The boat is probably easily fixable if you want to do the work yourself, but the motor is where the real value lies. If it is good than it is probably a deal. if it is not, then why work to still have more work?

Hardboilded - Please try to limit your posts of the same problem/condition (even though reworded slightly) to a single thread. We get confused enough as it is.
