Have found a really nice older fiberglass boat im interested in. It only has a 25hp 2005 Yamaha on it though. Im worried the engine might be too stressed? Its a moderate V fishing/ cuddy cabin sort.

As long as the motor is propped so it can operate within it's WOT rpm range, it's not being overly stressed.

A ride before buying is recommended anyway. At that time you can check to see that the motor turns up to the proper rpm at full throttle.

Yamaha lists the F25 as having 25 hp @ 5500 rpm, so the realistic rpm range is 5500-6000 rpm.

I think he said it is usually run at just under WOT for 2 men.

Sure sounds like a heavy boat for a 25.

Any more info?
make
model
year
Is there a hp capacity plate on the boat?
Link to an ad?

I had a heavy duty 16' aluminum with a 15 that barely planed out, but it was faster than my buddies 14' glass utility with a 25.

Test drive is a definite must.

Load it up with people and gear as you plan to run it, and go see if it is acceptable for you.

Making sure the motor is attaining a minimum of 5000 rpm while under this load, is important in keeping the motor alive.

To each his own, but I too feel that 25 is not enough. I had a 22 Scott Attwater on a 13' boat FG boat once and it was marginal. Inlaws had a 40 rude on a 15' glass boat, (semi V, foredeck and windshield, back to back seating) of the day (early '60's) and that ran out real nice with 2 folks and gear if you just wanted to get from here to there. When you said cabin and all, that seems a bit much. And then you have to ask yourself why is the current owner selling?

not sure I can picture a cuddy cabin on a 15' boat, but anyway, sounds light. A flat-bottom open boat, typically used with light loads and fair weather, not so bad
