How much water should be coming from the exhaust port? I am used to outboards that pee. This one water dribbles out of the port, but a good amount is flowing. I took it apart and stuck a water hose in to the water passages. The impellar looked brand new.

Motor runs good and I want to keep it that way.

Does a stream come out of these, or do they just dribble?

The holes in the back of the leg are exhaust relief ports (not a telltale) so water will only mist/dribble out.

Re: 15 hp gamefisher water output

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I should have given more info. The model is 225 581 503, I think it is a 1990, the serial is 14669. I am attaching a picture of where water comes out of now. Can you give me a link on installing a tell tale? Google didn't help.

Take a pic of the powerhead,3-4 different views.
Post them.
From looking at the parts diagram it doesn't show a port to hook up a tell tale.
The pics will help.

Thanks for the pics.
It looks like there isin't a place to hook up a tell tale.
The thermostat is actually under the head below the spark plugs.
If you really wanted to install one,you can drill and tap the block in the water passage someplace?

Doubt it's worth it. If it's been running for 12 years without one, it must be ok. It runs pretty good, just a little rough at very low idle.

The low speed roughness:The air screw might need adjusting.
Start motor, run till warm, then running, turn screw in till it kicks, stalls, coughs then out 1/2 turn.

Re: 15 hp gamefisher water output

I have a 1994 Game-fisher 15hp short shaft that's currently my project.. Same exact motor with only a couple minor differences. These motors do not "pee". They just dribble out of the exhaust relief ports, the two little slits. There are also a few holes on the foot of these motors that should have water coming out of them too. Whoever said drill and tap a telltale is an idiot. DO NOT do that! You could possibly damage the whole unit. The old saying "if it aint broke don't fix it" holds true in this situation. Trust me, you don't want to go messing with things you shouldn't have. Parts for these things are hard enough to find already. As long as its running OK and you know the impeller is OK just let it be.
