15 HP Mercury water flow

When running the stream of water will stop for 2-5 seconds, then start again. This happens running, idle.doesnt seem to matter. had the water pump replaced and no change. The mechanic said this is normal because it has a thermostat. Is this normal ?

Yes it is normal.With the engine cold,the thermostat is closed.As it warms up,it opens,and you see the telltale.This cools the engine,and the thermostat closes,stopping the telltale.Then it warms up again and opens.Totally normal.<br />DHP
