Hi all! I have a 15 hp sears outboard with the model#225.587151, and the serial#3896. Would like to know what year the motor is, who is the maker, and what is the right point gap setting for it.
Thank you for your help

Thank you very much geezer for the info. Replaced points and condensers. Boy did they need it!!! Motor starts a lot easier than before, but now I need a carb base plate gasket and fuel pump for the motor. Sprayed a little carb cleaner around carb base, and the motor stalled out. Runs good but has a little fluctuation in rpms, but not really bad. Figured I might as well replace the fuel pump while Im at it!! Can any one direct me to parts for this motor??
Thank you again for your help!

That is one of the few motors marketed by Sears in recent history that is actually a decent outboard. I just googled the part number you provided and it comes back as a 1987. That's pretty new as outboards go.

You can get parts for that all over the place. You will find that Chrysler/Force parts are the same. You don't have to go through Sears unless you find them to be a better source than anyone else. Much of what you will need can probably be found here at i-boats for that matter.

If you need help with anything...you might try posting on the Chrysler forum here.
