I have an early 80's ('83, I believe, I can find out if it's important) 15 HP Evinrude. There is a linkage on the tiller handle "joint" that regularly slips alignment of the linkage gear teeth. This is due to the fact that I have this motor on a trolling bracket on the back of my large boat and since it's lowered, the tiller handle has to be bent upward at that joint so I can operate it. All of this is within the normal operating range of that joint. But that position seems to be incompatable with the design, or the teeth are just worn from 27 years of use.
Other than not using it that way, anyone have any suggestion how to solve this problem or an easier way to re-align it? Right now, I just force the gear's teeth to re-align it.
This is really a fine little engine. Starts easily, runs smoothly, not a drop of leakage in the L/U, really clean little unit. I'd like to solve this irritating problem if possible.
Thanks.
