I need a 15 HP four stroke, extra long shaft (25"), electric start, tiller motor. I am located in Western PA and will consider new or well cared for used.

Anyone know of sources for this type of motor.

Thanks

iboats does not sell 15 hp xtra long shaft mortors which is why this was in the sailing forum. Sail boats use xtra log shaft motors. It would be nice if you left topics where they are placed.

Honda is the only one that specifically makes this one.

Yamaha makes an Xlong 25", electric, tiller 9.9 hp in a specific high thrust model. It will have a much higher gear ratio and a special prop. I would guess the 9.9 high thrust Yamaha has more thrust for a sail boat than the Honda.

Hmmm. Pretty short fuse there, Kayak.

How many helpful replies did you get over there?

Re: 15 HP xtra long shaft

JB,

Not a short fuse, just a frustration. Sometimes we place topics where we think they will do the most good, not at random. Given that sailboats most often use xtra long shaft motors, it was directed where sailors would read it first.

As far as responses, one is all it takes and I did receive an excellent one with enough information to be of assistance.

While I do appreciate the responses from this forum, you'll note that topics here take a nose dive very quickly. Rather than to flood each forum with the same question I started in the sailboat forum by design knowing that my topic would be on the front page longer than on here.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi, Kayak.

Your logic in placing the thread where you did is sound.

However, after reviewing many thousands of threads I was sure that you would get more and more useful replies here.

Good luck. :)

kayak99, sorry I couldn't get to you sooner, my wife kept me busy. Anyway if you haven't located the Xrta long shaft yet, check smalloutboards.com and also Chuck's Paint and Outboard Motors, these guys are wall 2 wall and 2 ceiling outboards. Located in OK city,OK 405-272-9795. Good luck, Knobby
