15'" or 20 " shaft on motor

On a standard 14' aluminum fishing boat , could a 20" shaft be used instead of a 15'' ? How would it effect performance ? {trolling or planing).

A "standard" 14 could have a 20" transom.
A long shaft motor on a 15" transom will of course stick down 5" farther could cause problems in shallow areas.At speed there will be a lot of spray some of which may come over the transom.May handle strangely.Trolling should be no problem except for the added depth.
