150 2 Stroke primer ball issues

a few times this has happened to me. when my engine is off for a while it seems all the fuel slips back down past the fuel/water seperator back into the tank. when i try to prime it it will not prime because it seems there is enough back flow suction to allow some fuel from the water seperator to also slip back into the gas tank. creates a space to where the ball cannot get suction or something. my primer ball is between the fuel/water seperator and the engine. i bought a new ball thinking that maybe the check valve in the old one was allowing fuel to go back to the tank. now i have an issue with the ball collapsing. it's a moeller ball(got it from west marine). it seems a lot softer than the one that came with the engine. anyone know what the issue could be?

You definately don't want the ball to collapse. The oem ball on my '96 Yammie developed a leak around one of the clips so I replaced it with one of those blue Seasense bulbs from Walmart. Had trouble with it collapsing under pressure so got one of those stiff Attwood bulbs from Academy Sports. Works like a charm. In other words, your new bulb isn't stiff enough more than likely. I'd attempt to answer your question about the fuel flowing out of the line but I'd probably be wrong.

yeah, sucks too cause the ball i got was kind of expensive and had a dual check valve which is what i thought i would need to keep the gas from flowing back to the tank. the quicksilver bulb looked a lot like the one that i took off. probably go back and get that one....btw it doesn't collapse when the engine is on...it was full when i installed it and i ran the engine...i left it overnight and came back and looked and it was somewhat collapsed so when i pumped it, it was totally collapsed. also, before i got the new ball i was stuck out on the water with the ball not priming problem i bypassed the filter...pumped the ball until it firmed up and motor ran fine.

Maybe your tank is sucking back on you when the engine is off? Maybe it's not properly vented.

Also check the female fitting on the hose going to the tank.
Have had the o-ring go bad on a few causing trouble.

my tank is vented through the cap i believe. i'll check and make sure it's not clogged up. also, are you talking about a fitting on the engine side or the tank side that has an o-ring?
