150 black max shaft length?

people say to measure the transom down to the lower unit for this opproximate length. but i need to buy a lower unit. and dont have one currently at all. so do i measure from where the mid section mounts to the motor, and down to where the middle section ends where the lower unit would bolt??????

you would measure where midsection bolts to the powerhead down to the bottom of the lower unit to measure the shaft...but you say you don't have one. it would probably be 25 inch shaft for that motor

well.. i measure 20 1/4 in. from where the powerhead and mid shaft meet. down to where the lower end bolts up. would anyone know for sure? its a 1983 150hp black max.

the way i worded my post wasn't very clear...but you did measure right, you must have a 20 inch shaft. my brother has the same motor but different year and i think he has a 25 inch shaft on his. hopefully someone else here can tell you for certain
