i have a 2000 150 EFI that seems to have a sticky throttle. the problem started out only occurring in reverse. when i'd give it more than about 2k rpms in reverse it would get stuck open, cavitate and run away. at this point i'd kill it, pull the cowling and have to manually push the main throttle arm back to "zero." assuming this was a simple linkage lube issue, i hit every visible linkage on the motor with a little lithium grease. this seems to have made the problem worse because now the motor gets stuck when running in forward too! if i'm running wide open and pull the throttle back, it only will drop down to about 3.5k rpms which is not cool and, frankly, a little scary. so then i have to kill it, pull the cowling and push that sucker back by hand EVERY time i bring it up above 2k rpms in both forward and reverse. does this sound like a cabling issue? more lube in a spot i'm missing? something else? any help would be greatly appreciated. 100/hr is tough to swallow for something that seems like it might be really simple.

thanks guys

Re: 150 EFI sticky throttle

sounds like your throttle cable is getting a little wore.on the engine end pull the throttle cable trunnion nut out of it's holder and turn counter clock Wise. making cable longer so idle stop screw just touches block you only want just a little bit of pressure too much and it will shift to hard.

I would pull the cable off and move the linkage by hand, just to rule out that it's the cable and not the linkage getting stuck. It's probably the cable, but just check it out to be 100% sure. Then after that, check the movement of the cables with them disconnected. Are they sticky/hard to move? You could try lubing up the cables themselves to try and free them up a bit.
