I have a 96 150 ocean pro. When starting the starter motor spins however doesnt engage. Sounds like the bendix came apart in there. How hard is it to remove the starter to inspect the problem. Looks like a nightmare to pull the whole flywheel cover just to remove the starter.

Re: 150 Evinrude starter

The starter's gear should be visable. If it
is, the shaft the gear is on needs oiling.
WD-40 works great for this, but once it is freed-up, regular motor oil will keep it that way. Most marine engines experiance this problem,as they are in such a humid environment.
The gear needs to be free enough to spin-up,and into the flywheel, and the spring on the shaft will allow the starter gear to return when the key is released.

------------------
Time to change my tagline

I know what your saying but on this motor the starter gear and shaft are completely enclosed in plastic. I was able to get to the 2 bolts that hold it in but it wouldnt budge.
