Re: 150 evinrude what prop to use
I think this would depend on how much boat you're pushing. How much of a hole shot you want and what kind of speed you wish to achieve. I'm not an expert but I went through a few props on my boat before I settled on what I have. I did learn you want to match your prop to how you want your boat to perform at take off and max RPM. The higher the pitch the lower RPM at top-end and the better the hole shot. the lower the pitch the more RPM at top-end and not so good a hole shot. I am lucky and the mechanic I go to has a lot of spare props lying around. I have a Suzuki 155hp 4 stroke on a 15.5' Hewe's Flats boat. I started with a 3 blade 19 pitch and could easily red line the tach. I switched to a 21 pitch and could still red line. I now have a 4 blade stainless steel 23 pitch and even though I can still red line, I have to try to get there. (i.e. empty boat, trimmed out and jack plate up) Now my hole shot is incredible but my top speed only hits around 42 mph.
