does anyone have any experience with a 30' scarab sport with 150s on it. I have never seen one but have seen them with 175s. I'm sure it will be a little underpowered but would it work? I am only looking for about 40-45 mph out of it.

I ask because i have a pair of strong 150 suzukis on my 25 CC now but have a line on a scarab sport with bad motors, but the bigger boat is what i want.

ANY INPUT????? appreciated

that boat has twin 250's.... I think 150's would get it on plane and run ok but 40 plus mph.... I highly doubt it ......high 20's to low 30's would be my guess.... my 28' welly is a heavier boat but with twin 260 I/O's I get 45 mph.... that's 220 more hp than you are talking

Agreed. Y'aint even sniffing 40 w/ 300 HP in a 30' boat of that variety. Scarabs are heavy to start and the hull on that thing is huge.

Reference point: 300 HP in a modern 25' center console will get you 45+. Add 20% more length and more girth and you are in the 30's WOT.

well looks like I am getting the scarab, and will likely be swapping on the 99 Suzuki 150 efi's from my 25 wellcraft. Main reason, their paid for and in great shape. The boat they are on however is not. They should work better than the crankshaft measured 150 hp old Evinrudes that are on it now. I will keep things posted

Isn't that kinda like putting a 4 banger in a Corvette?

Smokes's guess is dead on. 4 divers with scuba gear and everything else in my buddys 30' Scarab Sport with twin Merc 150's runs good. Gets on plane easy with plenty of power in heavy seas. The cruise speed is mid 20's with WOT "maybe" 30. I asked why so slow and he said he has to run power props because of the high weight of the boat and load for the HP.

more like a 4 cyl turbo diesel in a real sharp looking pickup truck..... won't win any races but will get the job done all day long and look good doing it using less fuel than if it had huge power

Re: 150 hp on scarab sport

Well I'm going to pick it up Sunday. Should be interesting swapping trailers and trying to get everything back. I would have picked it up on Wednesday but the trailer it's on would be lucky to make it to the end of the street, much less a 300 + mile trip from Panama City to Jacksonville. I'll let everyone know how the crazyness plays out
