I have a 1993 150 Johnson Fast Strike that does not get a lot of use, which might be a problem in itself. I ran it only once last year, and when trying to run it this year had the same problem as last year, which was it would idle just fine upon starting up on the ear muffs and water hose. I ran it long enough for the water to get warm, then took it to the boat ramp and launched. It fired right up, but when trying to get the boat on plane, it would only turn 2000 RPMs. I messed with it for about 10 minutes like this, then put the thing in neutral and revved up to about 2200 RPMs for about 30 seconds. After doing this, it took right off,and ran perfect all day long. I just not sure what would cause this, especially after it ran so well the rest of the day. Carb problems maybe?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been a couple of years since the plugs were replaced. Probably not a bad idea to replace again. Really stumps me about how well the motor ran after it "cleared" out. Was thinking about putting Sea Foam in the tank.

Re: 150 Johnson Fast Strike

Thanks Sparkie, I was thinking maybe a possible fuel delivery problem may exist, was planning on replacing the fuel filter as well as the things you mentioned. I also have a can of the Evinrude/Johnson engine tuner that I was going to run through it. Just really gets my goat that it ran so well after it did clear up this past weekend, idling, hole shot, cruising was all perfect, but I guess any one of the things mentioned could be the culprit.
