Anyone walk me thru removing my 1983 150 Johnson outboard from the transom on a Champion Bass Boat. In particular the wiring for the trim guage and the trim & tilt pump. Do not want to cut any wiring. Shift and streering cables will remain with the boat. Going to have the transom repaired.

There's not much to it, 4 bolts, the steering, the red plug, battery cables, and a couple of trim wires if they're seperate from the main connector.

No need to cut anything, just follow the wire to a terminal.

yep, pretty simple procedure, no need for cutting anything, everything plugs together at some point in the wiring harness, even the plugs would be near impossible to mix up.

Re: 150 Johnson Outboard Removal

Thanks for both of your replies. So I'll be looking for a main connector. Is there any need to get into the shift lever to disconnect anything? This is an old custom shift lever (maybe one of the first of it's kind) that you pull out and move forward to raise the idle. Wasn't sure if the trim & tilt wire(s) to the pump and trim up/down needed to be disconnected there. Obviously a fish tape or pilot line to reinstall the conductors is necessary.

all wiring should have connectors on them. control cable disconnect at motor. don't make it more complicated than it is. i really suggest a cherry picker to lift the motor. i just did the same thing to my 140.
