150 Mariner Control Box

Just purchased my first boat, 1990 Misty Harbor with a 150 Mariner motor. Took it right to shop to get inspected. My question is about the control box. The previous owner installed a new trim/tilt motor, and placed the switch on the control arm. When he did that, the neutral button broke, and he disabled the neutral wires, so the control box needs replaced for saftey reasons. The box works, but the engine can be started in gear.. $300 part, so I am looking for cheaper. I found a new old stock that I might get for 150ish, depending on how the auction goes. The part number on the New box that I found is 16907A15, which is superseded (new # or same as) to 881170A7. I am not sure what the part number is for the existing control box.

When I search the part number online some sites say

Fits Mariner 30 to 55 (Japanese origin) except 30/40 (2 cyl.) with integral o il injection."

The pictures match my box from what I can tell exactly. Same design, shape, switches, controls. Will this box work on a 150 motor when the sites list that description when I search for the part? I am not sure on the year of my motor. I am guessing its around 1990s that matches the boats year.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Re: 150 Mariner Control Box

Ya don't suppose there'd be a difference between 55 hp and 150 hp, would you?

Controls for the big engines usually have trim and tilt built in, so it might be the wrong one to start with. Might as well get the right one at this time.

You should be able to get em used. Throttle and shift cables should swap in easily.

hope it helps

The Throttle and Shift cables from that control box will fit your motor. The only question is whether the electrical harness will fit. The '93 motors have a round connector, with two external bullet connectors for the PTT. If your '89 has the same, you are good to go.
