Have an old 89' bass tracker 1800FS that had a 115-20" shaft on it and replaced it with a 1990 150 black max 25" shaft. The bulb does not stay pressurized upon stopping the boat and starting. Also it is really dog slow on the hole shot. Could this be a fuel pump? Also my ignition control box randomly has a load alarm sound to it. It will come on at weird times and then go off again, sometime i jiggle the key and it goes off. What Pitch prop should I be running on this black max? I took the one off the 115 and put it on, i think its a 19 pitch. The engine doesn't really get past 4500 RPMs.. it sounds good upon start and idle but is really slow on the hole shot and top end. My 115 outperforms it by far. Any thoughts?

Could be anything. Why don't you start from the bottom and set that engine up right?

25" shaft is wrong for that boat. The right engine (XR4 is the 150 they put on them) will turn a 22-24" prop to the limit, and move the boat at 60 or better. That's running the prop right at the surface. Buried 5 inches deeper, it would be a dog.

i turned the threads onto the lifting lug in our machine shop..going to remount the engine higher tonight and try it once. i'm going to take it up a few holes and see if it goes any better.. may have to do that and just go with a shorter shaft engine.. man did my homemade jack plate come out nice though..
