150 Oil Module Question

I have a 96 150 mercury outboard serial # is 0G397...

I lost the spark on the #6 Cylinder and traced it back to a bad leg on the switch box. I bought a new switch box and during the replacing job one of the wires sparked on something. (I should have disconnected the battery) After the new switch box was installed i checked the spark on the #6 and the problem was solved. I now have spark on all cylinders.

The problem now is that when I turn the key on I have a constant BEEEEEP alarm. It is not the temp sensor i have checked it. The signal is coming from the oil module as in when i disconnect it the beeeep stops. I have recently replaced the oil module with a used one due to the same exact failure.

So here are my questions could the arc while installing the switch box caused the oil module to fail?

Is it just a crazy timing that the second I am done with one repair another problem pops up?

Also there is one green wire coming out of the oil module and ties into one of the legs of the outside switch box... What is that wire for?

Thanks in advance for feedback

Re: 150 Oil Module Question

Tells the module that engine is running and reference the rotation sensor on oil shaft. If it is not meeting the requirements it sounds oil alarm.

Re: 150 Oil Module Question

Okay so do you think that the oil module is bad. All of my trouble shooting points to bad oil module. The only thing that bothers me is that as soon as I was done installed the new switch box the module stopped working. Is there something I could have done that caused it to fail or is this a random failure?

Also as a side note the alarm beeeeeep is not very loud and I do still get the couple of beeps when i turn the key on and then the constant beeeeep. But it is not as loud as the intial beeps when the key is turned on.

Make sure the green wire is on a coil primary connection. (original was #2, but it really don't make any difference. Also check the ground on the oil alert.

If it beeps solid with the key on, engine not started, and it's coming from the oil alert module, it has to be a bad module. (Assuming it's wired right.) A bad motion sensor, or even oil level switch will not sound the alarm until the engine is rotating.

hope it helps
