I repowered my center console last month with a 150 Optimax and I?d like to be able to have a reserve, portable gas tank on board like I had with the old Force outboard. Trouble is, there is no quick connect fuel plug on the outside of the Optimax?s cowling?matter of fact, the fuel line appears to be plumbed direct into the filter/fuel pump. Should I forget using the portable tank or can I reliably tap in to the fuel line to add a quick connect to the portable?

You must install a fuel selector valve on any dual tank installation. Without it, you will suck air from the empty tank. The selector valve (manual or electric) gets installed before the filter. The port going to the portable tank can have any quick connect added to it and a mating fitting added to the portable tank fuel line. That makes the portable easy to disconnect and tote for filling.
