150 overheating or VRO issue?

Today was my first out this season an everything seemed great until alarm buzzer went off. I have an 89' vinrude 150 VRO. I was cruising at 3500 rpm and all was well. I cranked it up to WOT which is approx 5000rpm and within 30 seconds the alarm went off. The sound is a steady pulsing. I though is was the VRO so I added oil directly into the gas tank. i have a 40 gallon tank and added about 3/4 of a gallon of oil. Not sure of the ratio but figured some oil is better than nothing. I restarted the engine and the alarm didn't return. I crusied at 3500 rpm for a while and it seemed fine. I tried WOT again and within 30 seconde the alarm sounded again. The only thing I notice is that when I hit WOT the temp gage increases more then when at 3500 rpm. It is an oil issue?...or is it overheating, Is the water pump not pumping enough at higher rpm? The "pisser" has water comming out after I start. Any help is appreciated.
Tx,

You have an over-heat problem with that steady horn. there again! that over-steam indicator show's all is well. I wonder how many engine's that thing has taken to ruin?

Any thoughts on what is causing the overheating. Is is directly related to poor water circulation?

Kris33
Pull the plugs and make sure there all getting fuel. If one or more reed valve is stuck open/burnt you may not draw the fuel for high speed. Causing heat which all the water won't cool. Do this before its too late! I say this because its the first run this year, could have gummed reeds. But a check of the pulgs would be great info to you.
steev
steve

Kriss 33, This could be the low fuel pressure warning. If it quits when you reduce the throttle setting, it's indicating a lack of fuel. You may have some kind of fuel restriction. Check the fuel filter, fuel line and check valve. The no oil warning is a on and off tone. The low fuel tone is a constant tone. I have a 1988 Evinrude 150 that did the same thing at WOT.I Put on a new fuel line and primer bulb, problem cured. You want to address this ASAP as low fuel pressure will lean the engine, NOT GOOD. Good luck.
