RodBolt,
HELPING SOMEONE REMOVE A 150 87 YAMAHA POWERHEAD. ALL THREE PORT BOLTS CAME OUT THE STARBOURD SIDE ALL THREE BROKE OFF EVEN WITH OX AND ACYT. i HAVE HEATED AND BEAT AND FRAMMED AND PRIYED. ANY SUGGESTIONS. I CAN NOT EVEN GET A BIG ENOUGH CRACK ON THE STARBOARD SIDE TO GET A HACKSAW IN THERE. I AM TO THE POINT OF CUTTING THE MIDSECTION AND GETTING ANOTHER ONE. OR TELLING HIM TO SCRATCH THE WHOLE THING. TWO BAD CRANK SEALS ANYWAY. ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYONE? SHOULDNT THE BROKE OFF BOLTS COME UP WITH THE POWERHEAD? PS I GOT THE THREE ON EITHER SIDE, THE TWO IN THE BACK, THE SHIFT SHAFT BRACKET AND THE TWO SMALL BOLTS UP FRONT AND ONE NUT ON THE PORT SIDE FRONT. DID I MISS ANYTHING? I NOTICE ANOTHER BOLT ON THE STARBOARD FRONT BUT IT DOES NOT APPEARTO HAVE A NUT OR ANYTHING IS THAT THREADED ALL THE WAY THROUGH?

Re: 150 POWER HEAD REMOVAL FOR RODBOLT

dude
those bolts are corrosion welded in place. the only way now is to mark a line up the bolt to just below the powerhead and hold a 3/8 or 1/2 inch drill perpendicular to the bolt and drill through the adaptor and cutting the bolts. the motor has 2 studs in the front 2 short bolts 6 long bolts and two bolts under the exhaust housing. I hate doing this job on saltwater motors.
good luck and keep posting

Re: 150 POWER HEAD REMOVAL FOR RODBOLT

First time I visited my son after his move to Florida, He had a boat hanging by the powerhead from a tree. I noticed that it was unbolted from the mid section. He explained that he and his buddies were pulling the power head. They iced down a case of beer and all climbed in the boat. Only took about half the case before it let go. He said that was an easy one. Nothing like salt water to make an easy job a pain.

Re: 150 POWER HEAD REMOVAL FOR RODBOLT

hello
the problem seems to stem from the fact that the bolt holes are tapered from the exhaust housing through the power head adapter. they are larger at the top than the bottom.
saltwater makes life so much more interesting :) :) .
good luck and keep posting

Re: 150 POWER HEAD REMOVAL FOR RODBOLT

Thanks. Rodbolt. I got it off. I driiled the bolts in two but only one came out with the powerhead. The other two ended up breaking off in flush with powerhead and the adapter plate. I have beat and framed and thosed %$#@ bolts do not want to move. It is just going to take alot of time. They will move just a hair them mushroon at the top. I then take a drill and releive that then move just a hair, so on and so on. Any other suggestions?
