Ok guys, here's my problem.
1996 150HP offshore carburated.
Charge voltage will often jump to 17-18 volts!
Usually when engine starts voltage will run about13.8 all of a sudden it will jump over 17. Sometimes it will drop back and some times stays up there.
This engine has the 40 amp dual regulator set-up, and I have changed both regulators.
Could the stator be causing this? Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Re: 150Hp Electrical problem.

Dirty battery connections or a toasted battery. It will jump up that high with no load at all on it. Otherwise it should stay below 15. The bad battery connection could be at the solenoid.

If you suspect a regulator, you can disconnect and tape off the yellow wires to each regulator in turn to check it out without harming anything. Just hook up the tach wire to the one you're using.

Hope it helps.

Re: 150Hp Electrical problem.

Thanks for the reply John.
I have pulled and cleaned all battery and cable connectons.
No difference.
Tough one to diagnose because it is intermitant.
Thanks again.
