I have a 150hp E150EXATS Evinrude with optic ignition that will only run for about 5 seconds. It was thought to have erratic timing when an analyser was hooked up to it and weak spark so the optic ignition and power pack was replaced. Now we have a nice spark. On full manual advance we can get it to run for about 5 seconds but no more. The VRO has been disconnected for years. Is there any solonoids/relays in the VRO pump that could be causing this problem? the reason is that if the fuel bowl is squeezed to the max there is a click and the motor will run for the 3 to 5 seconds. The plugs are getting heaps of fuel, the carbis have been cleaned out. Where can I go to from here??? Opps have also checked the stop circuit. Does the rectifier have any input on the ignition side of this motor? Please help.

Thanks

If you have good spark and heaps of fuel and it wont run, chances are the spark timing is off. Have you done the link and synch? I would think you will want to se the idle timing to spec first of all.

I do not think the VRO has any influence on the fuel supply if you are able to fill the bowls manually. Have you tried to pump the primer bulb when it runs for those 3-5 seconds? Have you sprayed premix fuel into the carb throats to "Prime" the motor. Is it possible your start up mixture is not rich enough?

Just sending back to the top since Im having the same problems w/my 03 johnson 150, it all started when I was 30 miles offshore then just stalled, I started it back up and went for about another 30 min or so, then the intervals just got shorter, now it will only run for about 5-7 seconds on the hose and I can start it back up and it does the same thing, I replaced the sparkplugs, fuel filter, cleaned the in line filter, Im ruling out bad gas/water due to the fact that I was running it for about 1.5 hours before it started doing it. A mech told me to disconnect the kill switch in the ignition; yellow/black wire but that didnt help, I cannot keep it running in anyway

I would check the stator assembly.
my would run fine then bog down or die found out they can get hot and shut down then work fine when cool
