An associate of mind said that evinrude has a problem with the oil injectors and I'd be better off mixing my fuel.Would any one out there recommend disconnecting the oil injector on this 150Hp evinrude and mixing my own fuel and oil?

Thanks for your help,

Well Key, it really depends on what year your motor is and what generation pump you have, but all in all, that's pretty much BS. It is a bad myth and OMC's VRO (OMS) pumps got a bad rap that has somehow lasted for the 25 year period they have been around, beacause lousy mechanics didn't understand them when they first came out and blamed a bunch of problems on the VRO pump that never could have been caused by it.

The original generation pumps had some problems, mostly with the warning system if oil flow became a problem, but it was minor and was re-engineered and it is a very safe and good system. I have never had a single problem with any VRO/OMS pump on any OMC engine going back to about 1989. Pre-mixing sucks, and that's the reason they came out with this system. I have logged thousands of hours on VRO/OMS pumps without a single problem and would never consider them a problem part. Your friend is buying into the BS. Even if you have an older pump, you can replace it with a newer generation one and be premix hassle free.

Thanks for the information. I feel a lot better about the 1997 Ocean Pro engine.
