Hello folks!
Ok so let me start by saying i have been through the wiring diagrams in my Clymer manual and i have tracked down 95% of the wires i am looking at, but there are a few that are eluding me and causing trouble in my outboard.
They have to do with the tilt and trim system and the solenoids mounted to the choke plate, as well as the wires coming from my side mount control harness and my actual engine harness.
i have pictures to help this process along and i will be as detailed as possible.
Thanks in advance for any help!
This image shows the wires FROM the trim solenoids that i am pretty sure go to the control side of the harness in the correct color coded plugs as shown in the pic. The tilt motor will run with blue/white wires connected and the green/white wires connected. Sometimes it will run, sometimes it will not. Its rather sporadic. I have no idea what the RED wire goes to but it is on the trim solenoids power post and has an inline fuse holder.
I know the dark brown/white wire is for the trim gauge. What is the tan wire for, and am i correct that the blue/white goes to the blue/white on the control harness plug and the green/white goes to the green white harness plug wire?
In this image you can see where the 3 wire set labeled number 2 goes. Also labeled 1 is the inline fuse holder that goes to the power post on the trim solenoid. Im pretty sure the green/white and blue/white wires are to the Up and DOWN trim button. Correct? So now i just need to know whats up with the red fused wire. There was no fuse in the holder also when i opened it up.
This image shows the purple wire that comes from the engine side of the control/engine harness. When i got the boat, this wire was just cut and laying in there. The wire was cut with the connecting plug still on from the other wire it was connected to and the tag end of it appeared to be either purple or a faded red. I looked in the wiring diagram and this is possibly the wire that goes to a blue/white wire from the control harness OR to a trim limit sensor? I cant tell.
This is the most troublesome part for me. This picture shows a ground wire i think, down by the bottom of the outboard behind a plastic plate. When i hooked up all the wires i knew about and tested the trim motor, it worked and ran good and strong, but this metal ground strap type wire got VERY HOT and smoked a little. I dont know if this is because i am grounding the entire system here because a loose ground elsewhere but this worries me because as it sits now, this is the main problem in my wiring. When the trim motor runs this gets hot.
So thanks in advance for any ideas or help anyone can offer. I am going to keep digging to find out if my boat had some special trim system set up where parts are missing etc etc.
The boat is a mastercraft Rajun Cajun year is 1986 and the Marine is a 1986 150hp.
