Motor worked perfectly until I ran out of gas by accident last weekend.
After refilling, headed down to dock and forgot to PRIME the bulb. After repeated attempts and a few backfires, the engine eventually flooded.

Now it won't start and I am very perplexed.
In short, I have spark on all 6 cylinders but not getting gas to cylinders 1 and 2.
Even tried new SPARK plugs.

Any way running DRY caused an air-lock or something like it?? HELP......

Model: E150STLCCA

Cheers. Corey

You may have picked up some water on the bottom of the tank. Do you have an inline filter?

Hi rickdb1boat

Yes I have both a water separator (NEW) and inline filter just before the Fuel pump.
Recent sample doesn't show any sign of water.

Thanks CF

Likely that when the VRO (fuel)pump quit pumping gas, it did not quit pumping oil. Likely that you have pumped a mostly oil mix into the carb bowls. You will need to drain them. Each carb has two screws on the float chamber under the carb. Unscrewing one of the two on each carb should drain the whole bowl. Pumping the primer ball with the screws out will insure that you are flushing all the oil out.

Thanks emdsapmgr,

I did notice a bunch of excess OIL all over the place. I'll give that a try and let you know.

Cheers. CF

Update.....

Well the problem appears to be two-fold. Yes, I had OIL all over the place plus I had a DEAD kill-switch.
No spark basically caused the motor to FLOOD uncontrollabely.

Next task is to charge all the batteries and test the Automatic Primer as it wasn't working very good last night. Motor would only start if I used the Primer in Manual mode.

Thanks for now. CF

Re: 150XP ran out of gas, now it won't start

The saga continues......

Motor now refuses to start at all.
At first it started with 3-4 firing but now refused to start all togherer.
All I get is nasty backfiring.
Starter seems to fighting the motor pretty badly too.
Only 3-4 cylinders appear to be burning gas (checking spark plugs for wet / dry)
Spark on all 6 cylinders (pushing spark to block)
Fuel appears to be abundant.
Compression ranges from 90-98 PSI.

I recently replaced the rectifier under the flywheel / stator.
Stator tests fine as per manual.
Is it possible the Timer Base spontaneously blew???

HELP HELP HELP.... already missed one Tourny heading to another in 3 days.

CF

If you have spark on all 6 I doubt timer base would be a problem. Sounds like you have fouled carbs or you still have oil in the carbs. I would pull the carbs and clean them.

Did you properly torque the flywheel? Might have sheared the pin and threw it off time...

Re: 150XP ran out of gas, now it won't start

red boat, I believe after 5-6 days of cranking and priming that the OIL problem is hopefully behind me..... good advice but I believe this is more of an electrical timing issue due to the never ending backfiring.

Rick, that's more like it !!!
Yes, I used an impact wrench to remove/tighten down the flywheel (dooohh). Now, would that cause an intermittent problem?? I will remove the flywheel tonight to see if I somehow sheered the flywheel PIN.

Cheers.......keep those suggestions flowing.
Corey
(only 4 more sleeps for tourny #2)

Re: 150XP ran out of gas, now it won't start

If this is the same one that has the waterpump issue, better check compression if you had no water flow, it may have stuck the rings, some or all, leading to near zero compression, or extremely low...

Re: 150XP ran out of gas, now it won't start

Hello again Walleyehed.

I have 95 PSI on Port side and 90-98 PSI on starboard side.
I did replace three badly cooked Coils and tested all 6 for spark.
Buddy of mine tells me to get the mechanics to re-time the engine as I had both the flywheel and stator off to replace Rectifier.

Would a rectifier change really screw this motor up that badly??

Cheers Corey
(getting desperate....... 4 days to Opening season)

Take things one at a time. If youre getting a true backfire -- out the exhaust -- then we have a timing issue. Either a couple of wires got crossed, either primary or secondary, on the coil change or the flywheel key is sheared or partially sheared. Did you get a chance to check the key like Rick suggested?

Re: 150XP ran out of gas, now it won't start

PROBLEM SOLVED........ the winning answer was from Rick!!!

Yes, as it turns out the Key was broken under the Flywheel causing it to be 60 degrees out of phase. In fact, the engine was running in REVERSE. No kidding. Prop went backwards when in forward gear.

I REALLY appreciate everybody's time and efforts providing solutions to the cause.... Now I can pack my bags for Walley Tournament #2.

Cheers Corey
