Hi All, I want to take the top (rub rail up, section) of the boat off for repairs to the transom before I start I was wondering if in the manufacturing process, the top and bottom were fused together during assembly or just bolted together with the rub rail. Anyone know. It's a 1988 Starcraft 15'2" Medalist model, open bow.

Re: 15'2" Starcraft fiberglass boat dis-assembly

My Starcraft hulls/decks were screwed together under the rubrail. Remove the rail and then remove the screws. Mine were 1970s era and the screws were mild steel, .ie rusty. I ended up drilling most of them out. Not sure if they had changed that by the late 1980s.

The transom area had some glassing holding things together. Brute force and leverage worked wonders... They also had some sort of caulking sealant in the seam all the way around, but on mine it was completely dried out and more or less fell out. Check my sig links for pics...
