i have a 15ft aluminum bateux or john boat waht ever ya want to call it.
i have had a30 hp evin on it it is alight boat the 30hp blew up
and i just finished a 1972 2cyl 50hp johnson elec shift .
mint little motor mounted it on boat havent run it bottom cav plate.is 1 ''
bellow bottom of boat how will this effect plane ability
boat is not rated for horse power because its custom was wondering what
chances of being usable with slightly hi horsepower for boat .can always change cowl if it is safe running
any thoughts on this would help

I don't think the 50 is a good idea.It is probably double the weight of the 30.
and 66% more power.Not a good mixture for success.Imagine how your boat would behave with an extra 120 lbs sitting right on the transom.
Sell or trade the motor for a more reasonable combination.
1 inch below bottom probably won't bother much but getting it at least even with the bottom might add a couple of miles per hour maybe a little better hole shot and produce less spray.

Benny, my jon boat is a 16 footer and built fairly light. The coast guard tag rates it at 30 hp. You were probably at maximum horsepower with remote steering on a 15' boat. Hope this gives you something to compare too.
