I have a 2001 model 15hp 2stroke merc that has never been on a boat but has been started a couple of times. It probally has about a 1/2 and hr on it total as it was just pulled from the box last yr in july.According to the 2 manuals it says it is fully broken in in one hr as you must not run it at one speed for two long.It says vary the speeds for only the first hr then full operation.I was always under the impression it was 10hrs even for 2strokes.

Also i have another question.I am going to run pennzoil full synthetic oil in it as it says to run it a 25:1 with the breakin.I am going to do a 25:1 for one full 6gallon tank,my question is will that be enough or should i go 2 full 6gallon tanks. You can tell the motor has never been used and it fires on one pull.Should i lubricate it with a richer ratio or will the 25:1 be ok?I want this thing to be as lubricated as possible. Also if anyone uses the pennzoil full synthetic and they get it at walmart you better stock up as i have bought over 10 bottles at $27 a gallon. They are deleting that oil as it really doesn't sell enough for them they said. The only other place i know of that sells it is west marine at almost $40 a bottle so that is why i'm stocking up.I would like to get my hands on at least 10 -20 more bottles as that should last me a long while, maybe 5-10 yrs. Thanks for any info.

I'm sure there are plenty of full synthetics around not to have to worry about a specific blend/brand.If a tank of 24:1 will cover the breakin time in the manual thats all you need.
Run the tank thgrough it and then go to the standard ratio.
Extreme procedures are not required just common sense.

No i hear you on the synthetic oil, there is plenty of oil out there but for over $40 a gallon.I will take a $27 gallon of pennzoil over any synthetic oil for the money.I'm sure amsoil is the best like most people claim it is,but for how expensive it is i will go this route. Also i was just trying to put that out there about the oil if people buy their oil at walmart as they could get it while it lasts for a great price.Just trying to tell people what is going on.
